What does the test measure?
Performance
Performance measures how fast the content loads and becomes interactive. We look at Core Web Vitals: when the first and largest content appears, when the page becomes usable, and whether the layout shifts around while it loads.
Accessibility
Accessibility measures how well the website works for all visitors, including people with disabilities. Contrast, alt text, clear structure and keyboard navigation all affect the score.
Best practices
Best practices checks that the page follows modern web standards for security and quality, such as HTTPS, security headers and avoiding known vulnerabilities.
SEO
The SEO section measures how well the website is optimized for search engines: that the page is crawlable, has correct metadata and a structure Google can read.
Common reasons for low scores
- Heavy images that are not compressed or in a modern format drag down load time. Fix: compress and serve in WebP or AVIF.
- Render-blocking scripts in the page head stop the page from showing until all the JavaScript has loaded. Fix: defer whatever is not needed right away.
- Too many plugins and themes add code the page rarely needs. Fix: remove what is not used.
- Slow hosting increases the response time before the page even starts loading. Fix: move to faster infrastructure and a CDN.
- Missing cache headers make returning visitors reload everything every time. Fix: set correct cache rules.
